The attack lasted for days but did not fully shut down the services.

Norway's government services were targeted by a massive distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on Monday, August 26, 2024, the largest recorded against the country's digital infrastructure. The assault flooded systems with traffic to degrade or disrupt online availability, primarily targeting a centralized authentication service used by citizens and businesses for single-sign-on across government platforms. While most public services remained operational, the Norwegian Digitalization Agency (Digdir) confirmed the attack was unprecedented in scale for the agency.

A pro-Russian group calling itself Server Killers claimed responsibility via Telegram, linking the attack to Norway's military and financial support for Ukraine, including an August 23 defense agreement and a $9.2 billion aid pledge announced by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Authorities have not confirmed the group's involvement but are investigating alongside Norway's Police Security Service, National Security Authority, and Kripos. Server Killers has previously conducted similar DDoS campaigns in Europe and Canada since 2023.
